Nakon pet dana historijskog suđenja, bivši američki predsjednik Donald Tramp oslobođen je svih optužbi.
Bila su potrebna 34 glasa za oslobađajuću presudu. U Senatu, 57 zastupnika je glasalo za opoziv dok je 43 bilo protiv.
Ovo je bilo najkraće suđenje za opoziv u američkoj historiji. S obzirom na to da je oslobođen svih optužbi, Tramp se može kandidirati na sljedećim predsjedničkim izborima.
Da bi Tramp bio osuđen bile su potrebne dvije trećine glasova, odnosno 50 demokrata i 17 republikanaca.
Suđenjem je predsjedavao najstariji demokratski senator Patrik Lejhi (Patrick Leahy).
Podsjećamo, sudilo mu se zbog smrtonosnog napada na Kapitol Hil 6. januara ove godine u kojem je život izgubilo petoro ljudi.
“Podsticanjem nasilja” protiv Vlade SAD, kako su tvrdile demokrate, Tramp je počinio teška krivična djela i prekršaje – što je osnov za opoziv po američkom Ustavu.
U toku suđenja tužitelji ispred Demokratske partije prikazali su do sada neviđene snimke sigurnosnih kamera napada na Kapitol. S ovim su željeli demonstrirati opseg nasilja koji se dogodio i koliku prijetnju su predstavljali huligani svima koji su se u tom trenutku nalazili u Kapitolu.
S druge strane Trampov advokatski tim je tvrdio da je ovo klasičan politički motiviran “lov na vještice” te su cijelo suđenje nazvali „protuustavnim činom političke osvete“.
U toku suđenja, pojavili su se i novi dokazi. Jedan od njih je i izjava zastupnice Džejmi Herera Bjutler (Jamie Herrera Beutler) u kojoj se pozvala na razgovor između republikanskog vođe u Zastupničkom domu Kevina Mekarthija (McCarthy) koji je vodio sa bivšim predsjednikom Trampom dok je trajao napad 6. januara. Tada je Tramp izjavio: “Pa, Kevine, pretpostavljam da su te ljude više brinu izbori nego vas.”
