Zašto Amerikanci danas obilježavaju Dan nezavisnosti: Način života koji počiva na slobodi pojedinca

Sjedinjene Američke Države danas obilježavaju Dan nezavisnosti. Ne obilježava se samo politička nezavisnost ove države, već i američki način života koji počiva na slobodi pojedinca.

Postao je državnim praznikom nakon što su se Amerikanci oslobodili od britanske kolonijalne vlasti 1776. godine, a koja je kontinent pokorila u 16. stoljeću. Bili su u potpunosti politički i ekonomski ovisni o Londonu. Između ostalog, nisu imali svoje predstavnike u parlamentu i plaćali su porez Britancima.

Nezavisnost su proglasili nakon što su se okupljeni oko Drugog kontinentalnog kolonijalnog kongresa objavili akt kojim su prekinuli sve odnose sa Velikom Britanijom. To se desilo 4. jula 1776. čime su kolonije poručile da više nisu dio Velike Britanije. Akt je nazvan Deklaracija o nezavisnosti zbog koje je nastavljen sukob između Britanaca i Amerikanaca.

Philadelphia, u kojoj je nastao akt odnosno Deklaracija, je prva proglasila nezavisnost. Velika Britanija je nakon rata, 1783. zvanično priznala nezavisnost 13 kolonija koje su sada među 50 američkih saveznih država:

  • Massachusetts
  • New Hampshire
  • Connecticut
  • Rhode Island
  • Delaware
  • New York
  • New Jersey
  • Pennsylvania
  • Virginia
  • Maryland
  • Karolina
  • Sjeverna Karolina
  • Južna Karolina
  • Georgia.

Britanskim kolonijama su ostali Nova Škotska, Kvebek i Newfoundland jer niti jedna od njih nije podržala američku pobunu. One su bile i utočište za mnoge koje su bježali iz ratom zahvaćenih kolonija.

Autor prijedloga Deklaracije o nezavisnosti je Thomas Jefferson koji je bio treći američki predsjednik, od 1801. do 1809. On, kao i predsjednici John Adams i James Monroe su preminuli upravo na dan kada se obilježava Dan nezavisnosti.

Obilježava se nizom manifestacija, a neizbježni dio obilježavanja jeste vatromet jer simbolizira nastanak nove nacije. Obilježavaju ga i porodice u svojim domovima organizujući druženja. Time slave individualne slobode na kojima počiva SAD. Za Amerikance to znači da imaju mogućnost da u potpunosti odlučuju o svom životu, tj. da niko drugi ne utječe na njihove odluke.

Povodom Dana nezavisnosti oglasili su se i iz Ambasade SAD-a u Bosni i Hercegovini.

Napomenuli su da time obilježavaju 245. godišnjicu sticanja nezavisnosti. Također su istakli da time, kako su naveli, slave prijateljstvo i saradnju sa Bosnom i Hercegovinom koji traju 25 godina.
