Na prvu, priča zvuči pomalo apsurdno ako znate da je Pochettino u Paris Saint-Germain sletjeo u siječnju ove godine. Dobio je jedan od najpoželjnijih poslova u svijetu nogometa, barem na papiru. Ušuškan u golem katarski novac, s jednom rukom na trofeju “le championnata” (trenutačno prvi sa 11 bodova prednosti ispred Nice), na pragu nokaut faze Lige prvaka, naoružan vjerojatno najglamuroznijim rosterom u povijesti igre. Gdje bi trener poželiio otići jednom kada se skrasi na Parku prinčeva? Zar u “kazalište snova”, gdje jedan napola raspadnut ansambl igra na trulim daskama?
Pochettinova pariška stvarnost očito nije ružičasta kako to na prvu izgleda. Kada malo zagrebete po površini, ustanovite da se od prvog dana na novom poslu Argentinac suočava s problemima na terenu i izvan njega. Za početak, teško je zavesti discipline čije kutove drže Messi, Neymar i Mbappe koji odbija produžiti ugovor i već duže vrijeme cilja transfer u Real Madrid. Htio je Pochettino mijenjati “party kulturu” kluba, ali je natrčao na zid. Šeik Al-Khelaifi i suradnici zagovaraju laissez-faire odnos, u paketu s bogatim ugovorom PSG-ove zvijezde dobivaju i slobodu da uživaju u životu. To ponekad klupsku svakodnevicu začini ljubavnim skandalima poput onog u režiji Maura Icardija.
I mimo skandala, Pochettino nije siguran da s orkestrom već pomalo vremešnih zvijezda (Messi, Di Maria, Neymar) može isporučiti Ligu prvaka.

Pochettino od dolaska u Pariz živi u hotelu, kao da je priču od početka prihvaćao kao avanturu. Supruga je ostala u obiteljskoj kući u sjevernom Londonu, što je također detalj koji trenera vuče natrag prema Engleskoj. U cijelom mozaiku argumenata najvažniji je ipak onaj koji je Pochettino dobro upoznao tijekom šest premierligaških sezona u Southamptonu i Tottenhamu.
