WHO: Omikron soj koronavirusa blaži od delte

Čelnik Svjetske zdravstvene organizacije (WHO) Tedros Ghebreyesus u srijedu je kazao kako bi omikron, varijanta koronavirusa, mogla biti blaža od delte, ali i dalje ostaje opasan, naročito za nevakcinisane.

”Iako broj hospitaliziranih pacijenata raste u mnogim zemljama, to nije nivo kojem smo svjedočili u prethodnim valovima“, rekao je on.

Tedros je rekao da je stabilan broj smrtnih slučajeva vjerovatno posljedica smanjene težine omikrona, kao i široko rasprostranjenog imuniteta od vakcinacije ili prethodne infekcije.

Dodao je i kako omikron u mnogim zemljama brzo postaje dominantnija verzija u odnosu na deltu.

”Ali, trebamo biti jasni, iako omikron uzrokuje lakše slučajeve od delte, i dalje ostaje opasna virus, naročito za one koji nisu vakcinisani”, rekao je on.

Istakao je kako je blizu 50.000 smrtnih slučajeva u sedmici, što je previše.

Kazao je i kako učeći živjeti s koronavirusom ne znači da je broj smrtnih slučajeva prihvatljiv.

”Ne smijemo ovom virusu dozvoliti besplatnu vožnju ili mahati bijelom zastavom, naročito kad je toliko ljudi širom svijeta nevakcinisano“, rekao je Tedros.

Podsjetio je kako više od 85 posto ljudi u Africi tek treba primiti jednu dozu vakcine.

”Ne možemo okončati ovu fazu pandemije ako ne zatvorimo ovaj jaz”, rekao je čelnik WHO-a.

U 90 zemalja nije ispunjen cilj od 40 posto vakcinisanih, a u 36 od tih zemalja je vakcinisano manje od 10 posto populacije.
