Američki specijalci u napadu na sjeverozapadu Sirije ubili vrhovnog vođu ISIL-a
Predsjednik SAD Džo Bajden (Joe Biden) rekao je u četvrtak da su komandosi američkih specijalnih operacija ubili vođu Islamske države u rizičnom napadu prije zore na sjeverozapadu Sirije, prenosi New York Times. Spasioci su rekli da ima žena i djece među najmanje 13 ubijenih tokom racije, među kojima su i djeca.
Bajden je u saopćenju naveo da je vođa terorista, kojeg je ISIS identificirao kao Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi, ubijen. Visoki zvaničnik administracije rekao je da je al-Qurayshi umro na početku akcije nakon eksplozije bombe koja je ubila njega i članove njegove porodice, uključujući žene i djecu.

– Zahvaljujući vještini i hrabrosti naših oružanih snaga, skinuli smo s bojnog polja Abu Ibrahima al-Hashimija al-Qurayshija, vođu ISIS-a. Svi Amerikanci su se sigurno vratili sa operacije – navodi Bajden u saopćenju.
Helikopterski napad koji je izvelo oko dvadesetak američkih komandosa, uz podršku naoružanih helikoptera, naoružanih dronova Reaper i jurišnih mlaznjaka, ličio je na raciju u oktobru 2019. u kojoj je Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, prethodni vođa Islamske države, poginuo kada je detonirao samoubilački prsluk dok su američke snage upadale u skrovište nedaleko od mjesta gdje se u četvrtak odigrala operacija.

Malo se zna o al-Qurayshiju, koji je naslijedio al-Baghdadija, ili o najvišoj komandnoj strukturi ISIS-a. Ali analitičari kažu da je smrt vođe Islamske države bio značajan udarac za terorističku grupu.
