Bosanskohercegovački bačac kugle Mesud Pezer takmičenje u finalu Olimpijskih igara u bacanju kugle završio je na 11. mjestu.
Nakon prestupa u prve dvije serije, rekorder naše zemlje je u trećoj kuglu bacio na 20,08 metara, što nije bilo dovoljno da ga gledamo i u naredne tri serije finala na Olimpijskom stadionu u Tokiju.
Rođeni Zeničanin danas nije bio u ritmu, koji je imao u kvalifikacijama, a očito je i pritisak učinio svoje, kao i vjerovatno činjenica da je prvi izašao na bacalište.
Prva serija kojoj je Pezer prestupio ponudila je novi olimpijski rekord. Postavio ga je aktuelni svjetski rekorder i olimpijski prvak Ryan Crouser. Amerikanac je kuglu bacio 22,83 metra. Njegov zemljak Joe Kovacs je nakon prve serije bio drugi (22,19 m), dok je treći, s najboljim rezultatom u sezoni bio Brazilac Darlan Romani. Već tada postalo je jasno da će Pezeru za medalju morati srušiti nacionalni rekord naše zemlje (21,48).
Ni u drugoj seriji bh. rekorder nije bio zadovoljan pokušajem koji je bio kraći od 20 metara, pa je namjerno prestupio. Hicem od 22,17 metara nakon drugog pokušaja na treće mjesto izbio je Tomas Walsh s Novog Zelanda.
Da je izuzetno raspoložen Amerikanac Crouser je potvrdio i u drugoj seriji kada je novi olimpijski rekord iz prve serije popravio za deset centimetara.
Takmičenje u finalu nakon tri serije nastavilo je osam takmičara, a poredak iz prve serije se nije promijenio. Jedino što se promijenilo je olimpijski rekord. Po treći put u finalu Olimpijade u Tokiju srušio ga je novi-stari olimpijski šampion Ryan Crouser. Hitac dužine 23,30 novi je rekord Olimpijskih igara i drugi najbolji rezultat Amerikancu je donio zlato. Kovacsu je pripalo srebro (22,65), dok se Novozelanđanin Walsh morao zadovoljiti bronzom (22,47).
