Izjava Srđana Mandića kako je „Sarajevo napokon oslobođeno“ a koja je uslijedila nakon izbora mlade Benjamine Karić za gradonačelnicu Sarajeva izazvala je buru i oštre reakcije velikog broja naših sugrađana. Mandićeva izjava se danas definiše uglavnom kao provokacija, pozivanje i podsjećanje na agresiju, a sve češće su i fotografije kojima se ismijava porijeklo porodice Mandić i poredi sa porijeklom porodice Skaka.
Iskreno, nemam stav povodom izbora nove gradonačelnice. Nije u mom gradu pa me se tako to manje i tiče, međutim, nije mi jasno zašto tako obrazovanu ženu u kojoj očito da se krije veliki potencijal razapinju bez da su joj dali šansu da pokaže šta i koliko može. Mlada je, obrazovana, sa vrlo bogatom biografijom – Benjamina je sve ono za šta se godinama borimo – mlada i obrazovana žena u političkom polju. Zbog čega nam sada to sve smeta? Zbog slike sa Josipom Brozom u pozadini? Ideali po kojima živi, ono u šta vjeruje i ono što obožava – sve to treba istaći u neki drugi plan a u prvi staviti obrazovanost i sposobnost ove mlade žene koja joj sigurno olakšava posao na poziciji gradonačelnice. Treba joj pružiti šansu. Tek nakon toga treba raditi ovo što radimo danas.
A kada je u pitanju „oslobađanje“ – koga i šta se mora osloboditi i od koga ili od čega? Moramo osloboditi narod od kandži nesposobne i po život opasne vlasti. Moramo osloboditi škole i Javne institucije i preduzeća od krađe, korupcije, nepotizma i stranačkog upošljavanja i prevara u javnim nabavkama. Moramo se osloboditi od nesposobnih kolektiva u domovima zdravlja i bolnicama, učitelja, nastavnika, profesora i direktora koji razdvajaju djecu na osnovu nacionalne ili vjerske pripadnosti. Moramo se osloboditi politike koja preživljava na retorici iz devedesetih.
Moramo osloboditi narod od beskorisne vlasti ma kako se ona deklarisala. Od njihovog krnjeg i često licemjernog pravoslavlja, katolicizma i islama, boravka i fotografisanja na Džumama i Bajramima obični bosanski čovjek nema apsolutno ništa.
Istina je! Moramo se osloboditi.”
