Ruski predsjednik Vladimir Putin naredio je svom ministarstvu obrane da uputi ruske mirovne snage u odmetnute regije na istoku Ukrajine, pokazuje uredba objavljena rano u utorak, nakon što je Putin priznao njihovu neovisnost.
Putin je ranije potpisao uredbe o priznanju samoproglašenih republika Donjeck i Lugansk, prkoseći prijetnjama Zapada da će taj potez smatrati nezakonitim i da će uništiti šanse za diplomatko rješenje krize.
Nakon toga uslijedio je val oštrih reakcija zapadnih zemalja, EU i NATO-a koji su najavili sankcije Moskvi zbog kršenja suvereniteta i teritorijalnog integriteta Ukrajine.
Putin se u dugom televizijskom obraćanju naciji obrušio na Ukrajinu i Zapad koji je po njegovu mišljenju tu zemlju pretvorio u “poprište rata”.
“Mislim da je nužno donijeti takvu odluku koja je odavno sazrela: odmah priznati neovisnost Narodne republike Donjecka i Narodne republike Luganska”, rekao je u televizijskom obraćanju, zatraživši od ruskog parlamenta da “potvrdi tu odluku i ratificira ugovor o prijateljstvu i pomoći s tim dvjema republikama”.
Putin je dodao da vjeruje da će Zapad uvesti sankcije Moskvi neovisno o njezinim potezima u vezi s Ukrajinom i dodao da njegova zemlja ima pravo odgovoriti.
Također je istaknuo da Rusija ima pravo braniti svoju sigurnost i dodao da se nikada neće odreći svoje suverenosti i nacionalnih vrijednosti.
Optužio je Sjedinjene Države i NATO da su Ukrajinu pretvorili u poprište rata i rekao da Moskva strahuje od raspoređivanja vojnika NATO-a na tom području te da je zabrinut zbog američkih bespilotnih letjelica koje špijuniraju Rusiju.
Putin je rekao da su NATO-ovi centri za obuku u Ukrajini prerasli u vojne baze i da Moskva potencijalno članstvo Ukrajine u NATO-u smatra izravnom prijetnjom.
Okomivši se na Ukrajinu, rekao je da su neonacisti u usponu, da su rašireni oligarhijski klanovi i da je bivša sovjetska republika američka kolonija s marionetskim režimom.
Ruski predsjednik je opisao istočnu Ukrajinu kao drevno rusko tlo, a modernu Ukrajinu državom koju su stvorili boljševici nakon revolucije 1917.
Ocijenio je da Ukrajina nikada nije imala tradiciju istinske državnosti i požalio se jer je postsovjetska Ukrajina željela dobiti sve što je mogla od Moskve, bez da je išta učinila zauzvrat.
