Šef CIA-e: Putin je ljut i frustriran, planirao je zauzeti Kijev za dva dana
Ruski predsjednik Vladimir Putin planirao je zauzeti glavni grad Ukrajine Kijev u roku od dva dana, rekao je šef CIA-e William Burns.
Govoreći na saslušanju u Kongresu Burns je upozorio američke zastupnike:
– Mislim da je Putin sada ljut i frustriran. Vjerovatno će udvostručiti snage i pokušati slomiti ukrajinsku vojsku s malo obzira prema civilnim žrtvama.
Burns je rekao da on i CIA analitičari ne vide kako Putin može postići cilj zauzimanja Kijeva i zamjene vlade predsjednika Volodimira Zelenskog promoskovskim marionetskim vodstvom.
– Ne vidim kako može postići takav cilj i gdje to vodi. Vjerujem da će u sljedećih nekoliko sedmica udvostručiti ulog i sve uložiti u to s malo obzira prema civilnim žrtvama – rekao je Burns odboru.
Burns je, međutim, istaknuo da je apsolutno uvjeren da će Ukrajinci nastaviti pružati otpor učinkovito i odlučno. Dodao je da se Putin gušio u zapaljivoj kombinaciji tuge i ambicija dugi niz godina.
Opisao je invaziju na Ukrajinu 24. februara kao stvar dubokog ličnog uvjerenja čelnika Kremlja.
– Naši analitičari procjenjuju da je malo vjerovatno da Putina odvrate neuspjesi i da će umjesto toga doći do eskalacije – rekla je direktorica Nacionalne obavještajne službe Avril Haines. S tako visokim tenzijama, uvijek postoji potencijal za neplaniranu eskalaciju – dodala je Haines na istom sastanku pred kongresnim odborom.
