Sila nebeska: Prije 29 godina formiran Peti korpus Armije RBiH
Na današnji dan, 21. oktobra 1992. godine, odlukom Predsjedništva BiH formiran je Peti korpus Armije RBiH.
U njegov sastav ušli su svi borci i starješine iz rasformirane Unsko-sanske operativne grupe koja je imala u svom sastavu sve pješadijske brigade, i dijelovi preformiranog Okružnog štaba TO Bihać, čije su formacije i nadležnosti smanjene.
Prvom naredbom na mjesto komandanta korpusa je postavljen major Hajrudin Osmanagić, ali ubrzo nakon toga dužnost je predao Ramizu Drekoviću.
Nakon odlaska generala Drekovića na dužnost komandanta 4. korpusa Armije Republike Bosne i Hercegovine, na poziciju komandanta Petog korpusa Armije Republike Bosne i Hercegovine 1. novembra 1993. godine dolazi general Atif Dudaković i na toj dužnosti ostaje preostali dio rata, do 28. novembra 1997. godine.
Tokom cijelog rata, korpus je djelovao u vrlo teškim uvjetima, u potpunom okruženju, suprotstavljajući se dvostrukom, a u jednom periodu i trostukom neprijatelju.
Za narod i pripadnike petog korpusa posebno su bile bolne borbe koje su se vodile protiv secesionističkih snaga AP Zapadne Bosne Fikreta Abdića, koji je tijesno sarađivao sa srpskim i hrvatskim vojno-političkim rukovodstvima.
Tokom operacije “Sana '95”, vođene u jesen 1995. godine, Peti korpus je u potpunosti porazio Abdićeve snage i oslobodio Veliku Kladušu, porazio srpske snage i oslobodio Bosanski Petrovac, Ključ i Bosansku Krupu, da bi na kraju ove operacije u sadejstvu sa Sedmim korpusom Armije Republike Bosne i Hercegovine oslobodio i Sanski Most.
Zbog izrazito teških uvjeta pri kojima je nastao i djelovao, kao i ostvarenih rezultata, Peti korpus smatra se jednim od najuspješnijih i najslavnijih korpusa Armije Republike Bosne i Hercegovine. Zbog toga je u narodu i dobio nadimak Sila nebeska.
Zbog velikog poštovanja hrabrosti vojnika 5. korpus je često nazivan 5. armijom od stranih medija koji su bili prisutni u vrijeme rata na tom području.
Prema dokumentaciji Petog korpusa tokom rata u Bosni i Hercegovini snage korpusa su učestvovale u ukupno pet operacija.
Ofanziva Munja ‘93,
Oslobođenje Grabeža ‘94,
Oslobođenje Pećigrada ‘94,
Operacija Breza ‘94
Operacija Sana ‘95
Operacija Oluja ‘95.
Dvojica pripadnika korpusa Adil Bešić i Izet Nanić su posthumno odlikovani najvišim armijskim odlikovanjem Ordenom heroja oslobodilačkog rata.
Tri brigade su kraj ratnih dejstava dočekale sa počasnim nazivom slavne (501, 503. i 511) i dvije kao viteške (502. i 505).
