Više stotina hiljada demonstranata okupilo se u srijedu na ulicama najvećih američkih gradova zahtijevajući pravdu za ubijenog Afroamerikanca Džordža Flojda (George Floyd) tokom hapšenja u Mineapolisu, kao i za ostale afroameričke žrtve policijske brutalnosti.
Uglavnom mirni protesti sa stotinama hiljada sudionika događali su se na ulicama Njujorka, Los Anđelesa, Filadelfije, Vašingtona, Atlante, San Francisca, Seatlea i drugih gradova.
U većini gradova nije bilo potrebe za intervencijom policijskih snaga, ali najmanje jedan policajac je ozlijeđen u sukobu s protestantima u Njujorku.
Do sukoba je došlo kad su policajci spriječili demonstrantima napredovanje ulicama Bruklina, a manja skupina koja se izdvojila je okružila policijski auto.
Prema izvještaju CNN-a tada je došlo do sukoba nakon kojeg je nekolicina demonstranata privedena.
Smirivanje situacije na ulicama američkih gradova mnogi pripisuju drugačijem pristupu policijskih snaga. Primjerice, u New Yorku su demonstrantima počeli dopuštati da ostanu na ulicama i iza vremena kad na snagu stupa proglašeni policijski sat.
– Naša poruka je došla do demonstranata”, izjavio je poručnik Kevin Knapp iz Policijske uprave u Atlanti te dodao kako policija podržava 99 posto prosvjednika koji mirno protestuju, a da probleme stvara manjina. – Svjesni smo da mora doći do sistemske promjene. No, suprotna strana mora i nas razumijeti”, zaključio je Knapp, čija su šestorica kolega privedena pod optužbom za prekoračenje ovlasti i pretjeranu primjenu sile protiv dvije osobe koje su poslije identificirane kao studenti.
