Ukoliko iračke vlasti natjeraju na povlačenje američkih snaga, Bagdad će se suočiti sa sankcijama kakve ranije nije vidio, rekao je predsjednik Sjedinjenih Američkih Država (SAD) Donald Trump u nedjelju, javlja Anadolu Agency (AA).
Trump je kazao kako će prospektivni ekonomski penali značajno nadjačati sankcije koje je SAD uveo Iranu.
“Ukoliko bude bilo kakvog neprijateljstva, ukoliko urade bilo šta za što mislimo da je neprimjereno, uvest ćemo sankcije, veoma velike sankcije Iraku”, rekao je Trump.
Upozorenje je uslijedio nakon što je irački parlament usvojio rezoluciju kojom od vlade traži da Sjedinjene Američke Države (SAD) i druge strane sile napuste Irak, a nakon što je ubijen iranski general Qassem Soleimani, bivši čelnik za regionalne operacije Teherana.
State Department je izrazio razočarenje ovim glasanjem i pozvao Bagdad da još jednom razmotri ovo pitanje.
Trump je govorio i o američkim vojnim ulaganjima u Iraku.
“Imamo tamo izuzetno skupu zračnu bazu. Njena izgradnja koštala je milijarde dolara”, rekao je Trump.
Poručio je kako neće otići dok im ne bude plaćeno za to.
Američki predsjednik nije precizirao o kojoj zračnoj bazi govori, ali, po svemu sudeći, to je zračna baza Al-Asad, u provinciji Anbar, u središnjem dijelu Iraka. Bazom zajednički upravljaju američke i iračke snage.
Soleimani, čelnik elitne jedinice Iranske revolucionarne garde, ubijen je u američkom napadu izvedenom rano u petak nedaleko od aerodroma u Bagdadu.
Njegova smrt dovela je do značajne eskalacije tenzija između SAD-a i Irana.
