Albert Bourla, izvršni direktor kompanije Pfizer, istakao je da bi svijet do kraja tekuće godine mogao dobiti prvu tabletu protiv koronavirusa.
Bourla je objasnio da kompanija Pfizer testira dva antivirusna sredstva, jedno koje se ubrizgava intravenozno i drugo koje se daje oralno. Pfizer se ipak više fokusira na oralnu opciju jer ona “pruža nekoliko prednosti”, a glavna korist je izbjegavanje odlaska u bolnicu.
Na pitanje šta misli koji je razuman vremenski okvir da pilule prođu kroz fazu ispitivanja i postanu dostupne, Bourla je odgovorio: “Nadam se do kraja godine, ukoliko sve bude uredu”.
Glavni naučni službenik Pfizera Mikael Dolsten je naveo da rješavanje pandemije koronavirusa zahtijeva prevenciju vakcinom i ciljano liječenje zaraženih virusom.
“S obzirom na koji način COVID-19 mutira, presudno će biti korištenje terapija sada i nakon pandemije”, rekao je on.
Bourla je također izjavio da siromašne države trebaju dobiti veći pristup vakcinama.
“U pandemiji ste zaštićeni jednako kao i vaš komšija. Ako ne pružimo pomoć područjima kao što su Indija i Afrika oni će postati ‘bazen’ u kojem će se virusi replicirati i generirati varijante”, naglasio je.
Najavio je da će da će Pfizer ove godine proizvesti najmanje 2,5 milijarde doza svoje vakcine, što na godišnjem nivou iznosi tri milijarde doza.
