Senat odlučio: Donald Trump ostaje predsjednik SAD-a
Okončano je historijsko suđenje američkom predsjedniku Donaldu Trumpu. U 22 sata po našem vremenu počelo je glasanje o opozivu, a Senat je na kraju odlučio da nema temelja za opoziv aktuelnog predsjednika SAD-a.
Senat je odlučio da Trump nije kriv ni po jednoj od dvije tačke optužnice.
52 zastupnika je glasalo da Donald Trump nije kriv za optužbu zloupotrebljavanja dužnosti, dok je 48 glasalo da je kriv. Predsjednik Trump je stoga oslobođen te optužbe. Što se tiče optužbe za ometanje rada Kongresa, 53 zastupnika je glasalo da Donald Trump nije kriv, a 47 da je kriv, prenosi Index.hr.
Zastupnici koji su položoli zakletvu kao porotnici trebali su odlučiti je li Trump zloupotrijebio svoju dužnost i ometao Kongres, za što je optužen u dva članka opoziva. Naime, Trump je bio optužen da je uskratio vojnu pomoć kako bi stvorio pritisak na ukrajinskog predsjednika Volodimira Zelenskog da otvori istragu o protukandidatu Bidenu, kao i da je potom učinio sve kako bi Kongresu otežao istragu.
Republikanci podržali Trumpa
Uprkos tome što je u posljednji tren republikanac Mitt Romneya najavio kako će glasati za opoziv, većina političkih komentatora smatrala je kako je malo vjerojatno da će se Senat odlučiti za Trumpov opoziv. Za to su bile potrebne dvije trećine od stotinu zastupnika koji sjede u tom tijelu, a 52 republikanca koji imaju većinu stoje iza Trumpa.
Romney je bio jedini republikanac koji je glasao za opoziv Trumpa te prvi zastupnik u historiji SAD-a koji je glasao za opoziv predsjednika iz iste stranke.
Ovo je bio treći put da je američki predsjednik prolazio suđenje o opozivu, prije Trumpa to su prošli Andrew Johnson 1868. i Bill Clinton 1999.
