Džamija Aja Sofija, spremna je da danas otvori svoja vrata za molitve, prvi put u 86 godina i to džuma-namazom, rekao je guverner Istanbula Ali Jerlikaja (Yerlikaya), javlja Anadolija.
Aja Sofija će za molitve biti otvorena džuma-namazom, a već nakon sabah-namaza su počeli pristizati oni koji su htjeli obaviti prvu molitvu u njoj nakon 86 godina.
Na konferenciji za medije održanoj jučer Jerlikaja je kazao kako svi s velikim entuzijazmom čekaju da prisustvuju molitvi.
Aja Sofija je među najpopularnijim turističkim destinacijama u Turskoj, kako za domaće tako i za strane turiste. Godine 1985, kada je imala status muzeja, Aja Sofija je uvrštena na UNESCO-vu listu Svjetske baštine.
Kao crkva je služila 916 godina, do osvajanja Istanbula, dok je status džamije imala od 1453. do 1934., kada je dobila status muzeja.
Turski sud je 10. jula 2020. poništio odluku tadašnjih vlasti iz 1934. kojom je Aja Sofija pretvorena u muzej, čime je utrt put da ponovo, nakon 86 godina postane džamija.
