Američki general upozorio Kongres o mogućnosti šireg međunarodnog konflikta
Najviši američki vojni časnik Mark Milley rekao je zastupnicima u utorak da svijet postaje sve nestabilniji i da se potencijal za značajan međunarodni sukob povećava, a ne smanjuje, prenosi CNN.
Predsjedavajući Združenog štaba načelnika general Mark Milley i ministar obrane Lloyd Austin pojavili su se pred Odborom za oružane snage Kongresa u svom prvom svjedočenju nakon početka ruske invazije na Ukrajinu.
Dvojica čelnika Pentagona rekli su da su prijetnje Rusije i Kine i dalje značajne, a branili su način na koji SAD pristupa ratu i šalje oružje Ukrajini.
Milley je rekao da je ruska invazija na Ukrajinu najveća prijetnja miru i sigurnosti Evrope, a moguće i svijeta koju je on vidio u njegove 42 godine služenja u američkoj vojsci, no dodao je kako je ohrabrujuće vidjeti da se svijet okuplja oko pitanja Ukrajine.
“Ruska invazija na Ukrajinu prijeti potkopati ne samo evropski mir i stabilnost, već i globalni mir i stabilnost za koje su se moji roditelji i generacije Amerikanaca tako teško borili kako bi odbranili”, rekao je Milley.
“Sada se suočavamo s dvije globalne sile – Kinom i Rusijom. Svaka sa značajnim vojnim sposobnostima, a obje namjeravaju iz temelja promijeniti pravila trenutnog globalnog poretka”, dodao je Milley.
Smatra kako ulazimo u svijet koji postaje sve nestabilniji i da se potencijal za značajne međunarodne sukobe samo povećava, a ne smanjuje.
Zastupnici u Kongresu usmjerili su svoju pažnju na raspravu o oružju koje se isporučivalo Ukrajini te postavljali pitanja može li se učiniti više na tom planu jer Ukrajina nastavlja tražiti dodatnu pomoć u naoružanju.
Predsjedavajući Odbora za oružane snage Kongresa Adam Smith istakao je kako je jedno od najvećih pitanja to da li se može učiniti više.
“Kako možemo biti sigurni da činimo apsolutno sve što možemo da im pomognemo?”, upitao je članove Odbora Smith.
SAD će podržati uspostavljanje stalne vojne baze u istočnim zemljama NATO-a kao što su Poljska ili države Baltika kako bi pomogle odvratiti Rusiju.
NATO još uvijek raspravlja o tome na koji način bi trebao pojačati svoju stalnu prisutnost u istočnoj Evropi.
