NATO zvaničnici su kazali za CNN kako su rasprave o pridruživanju Švedske i Finske bloku postale veoma ozbiljne nakon ruske invazije.
Prema riječima visokih zvaničnika američkog State Departmenta, piše CNN, to pitanje bilo je na dnevnom redu ovosedmičnog sastanka ministara vanjskih poslova NATO-a, kojem su prisustvovali i ministri vanjskih poslova Stockholma i Helsinkija.
Oni su kazali kako ovakve rasprave naglašavaju u kojoj je mjeri invazija ruskog predsjednika Vladimira Putina poslužila samo da se oživi i ujedini NATO savez – što je upravo suprotno od Putinovih ciljeva prije početka rata.
Ruski predsjednik je zahtijevao da se NATO prestane širiti na istok i primati nove članice, optužujući blok za prijetnju ruskoj sigurnosti. Umjesto toga, NATO je povećao svoju podršku Ukrajini i sprema se dočekati nove članice.
