NA DANAŠNJI DAN UMRO JE TITO
Prije 39 godina, 4. maja 1980. umro je Josip Broz Tito – neprikosnoveni lider Jugoslavije, proslavljeni ratni komandant i jedan od osnivača i lider Pokreta nesvrstanih.
Rođen je u Kumrovcu, u Zagorju, u hrvatsko-slovenskoj porodici u maju 1892. Njegov dan rođenja 25. maj obilježavan je kao Dan mladosti.
Radio je i školovao se 1936. i 1937. u Kominterni u Moskvi. Bilo je to vrijeme najoštrijih čistki unutar sovjetske nomenklature i komunističke internacionale, kada je likvidiran znatan broj i jugoslavenskih komunističkih prvaka.
Kao vođa KPJ, predvodio je u Drugom svjetskom ratu partizanski pokret (Narodnooslobodilačka vojska), a iz rata je izašao kao legendarni vođa.
Na čelu Jugoslavije nalazio se punih 35 godina.
Bio je jedan od osnivača Pokreta nesvrstanih, što je u tadašnjim međunarodnim okolnostima imalo veliki značaj. Njegova uloga u tom pokretu, u poznijoj fazi, posebno je upamćena po dosljednom nastojanju da se nesvrstani zadrže po strani od utjecaja pojedinih problokovski opredijeljenih članica.
U unutrašnjoj politici, stjecajem raznih okolnosti, vjerovatno i duboke starosti, ostavio je ustrojstvo koje se na kraju pokazalo kao neodrživo za funkcioniranje SFRJ – Ustav iz 1974. Specifičan sistem konsenzusa predstavnika republika i pokrajina pokazao se kao nerješiv problem kada se SKJ raspao.
Sahrani Josipa Broza Tita u Beogradu prisustvovalo je više od 200 visokih ličnosti iz cijelog svijeta, što je nesumnjivo izraz njegove posebne historijske uloge i izuzetnog ugleda koji je uživao.
