Prije 28 godina srušena je banjalučka Ferhadija
Prije 28 godina na današnji dan srušen je biser arhitekture u Bosni i Hercegovini, Ferhat-pašina ili svima znana kao džamija Ferhadija u Banjoj Luci.
Ona je bila jedna od 16 banjalučkih džamija koje su tokom agresije na Bosnu i Hercogovinu srušene do temelja. Sedmi maj se simbolično obilježava kao Dan džamija, kao simbol sjećanja na Ferhadiju i sve druge džamije koje je agresor srušio i čije je ostatke uklanjao sa lokaliteta na kojima su se nalazile.
Ferhat-pašina džamija bila je jedna od najprepoznatljivijih i najljepših građevina u Banjoj Luci. Izgrađena je 1579. godine u klasičnom otomanskom stilu i predstavlja jedno od najuspješnijih arhitektonskih rješenja bosanske arhitekture 16. stoljeća. Izgradnju je finansirao bosanski sandžak beg Ferhat-paša Sokolović.
U kompleksu ove džamije nalazila su se tri turbeta: Ferhat-pašino, njegovih bajraktara i njegove unuke Safikadune. U džamijskom kompleksu bile su kamena i željezna ograda, česma i šadrvan, te staro mezarje u bašti. A kasnije je izgrađena i sahat-kula nedaleko od Ferhadije.
Džamija je djelimično uništena eksplozivom 7. maja 1993. godine, a nakon toga su vlasti Republike Srpske organizovale potpuno rušenje i čišćenje terena na kojem se nalazio džamijski kompleks. Ostaci ruševina odvezeni su na gradsku deponiju.
Islamska zajednica Banja Luke je 2001. godine dobila urbanističku saglasnost za ponovnu izgradnju džamije, te je na dan njenog rušenja, 7. maja, organizirano polaganje kamena temeljca. Tom prilikom došlo je do protesta, velikih nereda i napada na vjernike koji su prisustvovali ceremoniji postavljanja kamena temeljca.
Tada je teško povrijeđen Murat Badić iz Cazina, a od posljedica kamenovanja preminuo je 26. maja 2001. godine.
Svečano otvorenje novoizgrađene Ferhadije džamije upriličeno je 7. maja 2016. godine.
