Union Berlin prvi put u istoriji u Bundesligi
U prvom meču u Štutgartu rezultat je bio 2:2, a kako u Berlinu nismo vidjeli golove, Union je zbog dva pogotka u gostima prošao u elitu.
Ekipa iz Berlina nikada nije igrala u Bundesligi i po prvi put će se takmičiti u najvišem njemačkom takmičenju.
Punih deset godina igrali su u Cvajti i konačno im se sreća osmjehnula. Od naredne sezone prijestonica Njemačke imaće dva predstavnika u Bundesligi – Union i Hertu.
Od 1991. godine Union je uglavnom igrao u trećem i drugom šampionatu Nemačke, a jednu sezonu proveli su i u “Oberligi” – četvrtom po rangu fudbalskom takmičenju u Njemačkoj.
Od 2009. su standardni u Cvajti, međutim nijednom nisu uspjeli da izbore plasman u elitu. Stalno su bili oko nekog desetog mjesta, a na kraju ove sezone završili su treći.
Uslijedio je duel sa Štutgartom, u kojem će prvi meč biti od presudnog značaja. Union je uspio da izbjegne poraz, dođe do remija (2:2) i da u revanšu pred domaćom publikom sačuva mrežu.
Ovo je tek treći put u istoriji da Štutgart ispada iz Bundeslige, prvi put su 1975, a drugi 2016.
