Nepravedni mir, ali ipak bolji od nastavka rata
Sporazum je bio kočnica ratu, ali kroz sljedećih više od 20 godina pokazalo se da Dejtonski sporazum stvara mnoge probleme.
Na današnji dan, 21. novembra 1995. godine, u Dejtonu (SAD) je postignut dogovor o mirovnom sporazumu u Bosni i Hercegovini kojim je, nakon što je potpisan 14. decembra iste godine u Parizu, zvanično prekinut rat u Bosni i Hercegovini.
Mirovni dogovor postignut je u bazi zračnih snaga Rajt-Peterson u Dejtonu, u saveznoj državi Ohajo u SAD, i njime je zaustavljen rat i riješeno pitanje uređenja Bosne i Hercegovine.
Tim dokumentom službeno je okončan skoro četverogodišnji rat, a Bosna i Hercegovina je ustrojena kao država tri konstitutivna naroda i ostalih i dva entiteta – Federacije BiH i Republike Srpske.
Ovo nije pravedan mir, ali je pravedniji od nastavka rata. U ovakvoj situaciji kao što jeste, i ovakvom svijetu kakav je, bolji mir i nije mogao biti postignut – kazao je Alija Izetbegović nakon ceremonije potpisivanja Dejtonskog sporazuma u Parizu.
